What You Need to Make Whipped Coffee
All you need are some simple ingredients to make this delicious, Instagram-worthy coffee at home. Here’s what you’ll need:
Instant coffee: You’ll need some instant coffee to make this delicious coffee. You can go for the regular kind of decaf as I have used here. Alternatively, you can also use instant espresso, but since it’s really strong in flavor you might need to adjust the proportions.
Sugar: It’s important to use granulated sugar for this recipe, but I would suggest going for a finer texture.
Hot water: Water will help mix everything together for the right consistency that you can beat or whisk up.
Milk: Once we’ve whipped up our coffee cream, we’ll then add it on top of milk for the most delicious Dalgona coffee ever. You can go for either cold or hot milk.

Pro Tips
- Use Instant Coffee: Whipped coffee (Dalgona coffee) requires instant coffee granules, they dissolve quickly and whip into a frothy texture. Ground coffee won’t work the same.
- Equal Parts: Stick to the traditional 1:1:1 ratio of instant coffee, sugar, and hot water. If you want it to come out thicker like mine, reduce the water a little as mentioned in the recipe card below.
- Hot Water: Use hot water and not boiling water since it will dissolve the sugar quickly, and the coffee won’t whip fast.
- Use a Whisk or Mixer: An electric hand mixer or stand mixer will make the whipping process faster and easier. If you’re whisking by hand, it can take between 10 to 15 minutes.
- Chilled Milk: Although you can use cold milk or hot milk the whipped coffee will not hold as long.
- Adjusting Sweetness: The standard recipe uses equal parts sugar, but if you wish to have more sugar, then add it to the milk, stir until it dissolves, and then add it to the whipped coffee.
- Serve Immediately: Dalgona coffee is best enjoyed fresh. Serve it right after preparation.
