Burger Pizza combines juicy and tender burger patties on a fluffy pizza crust, topped with marinara sauce, slices of onion and bell pepper, and, of course, a generous amount of mozzarella cheese. The beef burger is homemade and full of flavor.

It is a burger and pizza, so if you want to skip the pizza part and just make the burger, you are in for a pleasant surprise. You cannot go wrong when making these burger patties. Although I shallow fried them on the stovetop, you can grill the burgers for more flavor.

This Burger pizza recipe gives you a crust similar to the one I used in my Chicken Tikka Pizza recipe. It is my favorite recipe, and so far, I haven’t found any pizza dough that can beat its flavor or texture. If you love pizza you should try my Homemade Pizza Recipe with Meatballs, and Asian Beef Burger Recipe.

Why You’ll Love Burger Pizza

  • Unique Combination: Burger pizza merges two beloved comfort foods, which gives you an interesting experience.
  • Variety of Toppings: Pick the toppings you want like tomatoes, different cheese, mushrooms, and pickles.
  • Comfort Food: Both burgers and pizzas are classic comfort foods, so combining them gives you the pleasure of both worlds.
  • Popular with Kids: Children often enjoy both burgers and pizzas, making burger pizza is a family-friendly option.

Ingredients

Below are the main ingredients for making Burger Pizza, you will find detailed ingredients in the recipe card.

For the burger pizza patties

  • Ground Beef: Try to get the ones with more fat in them, they taste better in burgers.
  • Spices: Besides salt and pepper, we will use all spices and garlic powder.
  • Egg: We need it to bind the burger patties together and make them juicy.
  • Plain breadcrumbs: When egg, breadcrumbs, and beef are combined, the patties are light and tender in texture.

For the pizza dough

  • All-purpose flour: Usually, 00 flour or bread flour is used in making pizza dough, but I went for all-purpose since it is available in most kitchens. The crust came out light, fluffy, and less chewy.
  • Olive oil: It makes the crust flavorful and helps it stay tender. You can use cooking oil, but olive oil has a better taste.
  • Yeast: Although I have used dry active yeast, you can use what you have in your kitchen.
  • Sugar: It’s food for the yeast and helps the dough rise to give you a light burger pizza.

How to make Burger Pizza

The instructions before are brief, you can find the detailed instructions in the recipe card below.

To make the dough

  • Waking up the yeast: Mix water with yeast and sugar, keep aside for 10 -15 minutes, then add olive oil.
  • Mixing dry with wet: Sift the flour with salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and knead. The dough should be smooth.
  • Proofing: Cover the dough and let it rise until it doubles in size.
  • Spreading the dough: Punch the dough and knead for 1 minute. Lightly grease the baking sheet. Spread the dough on the baking sheet with your hands to the shape and thickness you desire. You can also roll the pizza dough on the working surface and then place it on the baking sheet.
  • Proof again: Cover and let the dough rise again for 30 minutes.

Making the burger patties

  • In a bowl, add all the ingredients and mix.
  • Make five patties.
  • Add a little oil to a frying pan. When hot, fry the burgers. Each side might take 4 minutes to cook.
  • When the burgers cool, cut into thick strips.

Making the pizza

  • Preheat the oven to 200C/400F.
  • Spread the marinara sauce over the pizza dough, avoiding the edges of the pizza.

Pro Tips For Perfect Burger Pizza

  1. You can use 00 flour to make the pizza crust instead of all-purpose flour.
  2. If you want a crispy, thin pizza crust, spread it thin and pre-bake it for 10 minutes before adding toppings.
  3. If your kitchen is cold, place the dough in the bowl on a pan with warm water to speed up the proofing process.
  4. Kneading properly is essential to getting a good pizza crust. It took me 5 to 7 minutes to knead the dough.
  5. Depending on the brand of flour, you may need to add more water to the dough. Start adding water if needed after three minutes of kneading.
  6. Be it for this burger pizza or other pizza recipes, always preheat the oven, or the crust will cook slowly, and when you use toppings with water in them, like tomatoes, the crust will come out soggy.
  7. Another way to make sure the pizza crust doesn’t get soggy is to prebake it for 10 minutes.
  8. If possible using a pizza stone is a good idea.

Variations For Burger pizza recipe

  • Herbs in the dough: You can get creative here and add your favorite herbs to the dough.
  • Your favorite toppings: It’s a pizza, so add the toppings you wish. Choose from different vegetables and your favorite shredded cheese.
  • BBQ sauce: I went for marinara sauce, but you can use any sauce you like instead. I sometimes use only ketchup as a sauce for the pizza.
  • Turkey patties: Want to make them lighter? Use ground turkey and the same ingredients as the burger patties.
  • Add more cheese: Make it a cheeseburger pizza by adding more cheese.
