Tips for the Best Homemade Taco Seasoning

  • Adjust the Heat: Add more crushed red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper. For milder seasoning, reduce or omit the chili powder and pepper.
  • Double the Batch: After trying this recipe, you might want to double the batch so it’s always available.
  • Use Fresh Spices: Ensure your spices are fresh for maximum flavor. Old or stale spices can dull the taste of the blend.

How to Use Taco Seasoning

  • Ground Beef or Chicken: Add 2-3 tablespoons of seasoning per pound of ground meat and 1/4 cup of water. Simmer until well combined.
  • Vegetables: Toss roasted or sautéed veggies with the seasoning for a delicious plant-based taco filling.

Notes

  • The chili powder I’m using is not the American blend. It is pure chili powder. You can use a red chili powder called (Kashmiri mirch) it is milder than regular red chili and adds beautiful color to the dish.
  • It’s best to use newly bought spices to make this mix; if not stored properly, some spices lose their flavor. If you use old spices, the result will be bland taco seasoning.
  • Cinnamon powder might sound strange in this recipe, but it adds great flavor; you will not taste it much, but combined with the other spices, it adds something special.
