Delicious Blueberry Lemonade

Blueberry lemonade is made with blueberry syrup and fresh lemon juice, it is sweetened with sugar, but you can use your favorite sweetener. A refreshing Summer drink that your family will enjoy!

This refreshing drink is not only delicious but has a beautiful color, you can serve it any time of the day, and it keeps well in the refrigerator. 

It is a healthy drink that you must try since blueberry helps the liver to flush the toxins from the digestive system, and some studies showed that blueberry prevents fatty liver. You are not enjoying the amazing taste; your body also benefits from it.

🥘 INGREDIENTS YOU'LL NEED

In a few minutes, you need four simple and inexpensive ingredients to make a refreshing blueberry lemonade. Let's look at what are the main ingredients you'll need.

Blueberries: You can use both fresh blueberries and frozen ones.

Sugar: I have used white sugar, but you can for raw or any sweetener you prefer. You can also mix sugar with honey.

Lemon juice: Freshly made unsweetened lemon juice adds more nutrients and flavor to this drink

Water: Some use soda water, but I prefer to stick with regular water. It's up to you.

🔪 HOW TO MAKE BLUEBERRY LEMONADE

Step 1

Add the blueberries, sugar, and water to a pan to make the blueberry syrup. Let the mixture come to a boil. Mash the blueberries well to use all their juices, then add the lemon juice. Let it come to a boil, then let it simmer for 5 minutes.

Step 2

In a pitcher, add the sugar and water, strain the lemon juice through a fine mesh sieve and add it, then strain the blueberry simple syrup and add it too. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Place in the fridge for two hours to chill.

Step 3 

Fill the glass with ice cubes and then pour the blueberry lemonade. Garnish the glass with lemon slices and fresh mint leaves. Enjoy!

💭 COOKING TIPS

  • Strain the blueberry simple syrup before using it in the lemonade.
  • No need to thaw the frozen blueberries when making the syrup.
  • You can use lime instead of lemon if that's what you have.
  • Crush or chop mint leaves in the glasses before serving for a more refreshing flavor. 
  • This blueberry lemonade should be diluted; hence it's best to serve it in a glass full of ice, or you can use less sugar.

📖 VARIATIONS FOR BLUEBERRY LEMONADE

Add chopped mint leaves when simmering the syrup.

Before refrigerating, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the blueberry lemonade.

Add your favorite berries to this lemonade, blackberries or strawberries.

🌡️ STORING AND REHEATING

You can store the blueberry lemonade in the fridge for up to a week in the fridge.

To freeze the lemonade, pour it into an ice cube tray and cover it with plastic wrap. It will stay for up to 3 months.

Ingredients

FOR THE BLUEBERRY SYRUP

  • ½ cup fresh blueberries
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice

FOR THE LEMONADE

  • ½ cup lemon juice
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 6 cups cold water

Instructions

TO MAKE THE BLUEBERRY SYRUP

  • Add all the ingredients except the lemon juice to a saucepan, and let it boil. Mash the blueberries using the back of a spoon or a masher.
  • Add the lemon juice and let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes until it thickens slightly. Turn off the heat.
  • Strain the syrup using a sieve, discard the solids, and keep the syrup aside.

TOMAKE THE LEMONADE

  • In a pitcher, add the lemonade ingredients and mix well. Add the blueberry syrup and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for two hours before serving.
  • Add ice to your glass and fill it with this refreshing drink when serving.

    I never tried blueberry lemonade before (just strawberry lemonade so far). This is wonderful! I love blueberries but besides smoothies, I never used it for drinks. How fun! Got to try this!
