Homemade Yogurt

homemade yogurt 1I thought after giving you ricotta cheese recipe, you might enjoy making something else at home, Yogurt.
Yogurt used in making smoothies, desserts, cooking, and in my case just plain with pita bread.
I am old fashion when it comes to the way of making yogurt, I don’t use thermometer, I depend on my finger 😉
Not everyone have a thermometer, and what if you have one but it broke? Well, my finger never let me down.
It’s easy to make yogurt, consume so little time and three ingredients. You might decided to make your own and not buy anymore since it also tastes better than the one in the market.

So here you are!

 

Ingredients:
2 cups whole milk
2 tablespoons full cream yogurt (at room temperature – it’s important)
Salt to taste.
homemade yogurt 2– In a saucepan add milk and salt, heat until it’s about to boil.
– Turn off heat.
– After 10 minutes, put your finger slowly in the milk, if you can keep your finger in the milk without touching the bottom of the saucepan for 14 seconds, then it’s time to add yogurt.
– Beat yogurt just to make it smooth, then add to milk, stir for 4 seconds only.
– Immediately, transfer the milk and yogurt mixture in a Sterilized container, which can be sealed tightly with a lid.
– Now we go old fashion again, I cover the container with thick blanket and keep it in warm place for 6 hours.
– After 6 hours transfer to the fridge and leave it there for another 5 to 7 hours.
– This recipe will make you around 2 and half cup yogurt, which you can keep in the fridge for a week to 10 days.
*You can put the container in the oven and keep the light on, but I think it is just a waste of electricity 🙂
